Sudden death loss of a son poems
This is the poem I wrote for my son’s memorial…
We weren’t prepared for you to die,
Never dreamed that you would go
Yet, one day, you were here with us-
And the next, God took you home.
We didn’t get to say goodbye,
Or tell you, you were loved,
We cried in aching anguish-
I’m sure you saw from up above.
Our hearts are torn apart-
Our world turned upside down…
How do we make it, day by day
If you are not around?
You loved us all so purely-
Your heart was made of gold.
Your death - when you loved life SO much-
Could never be foretold.
Everyday is filled with longing
Life will never be the same.
But memories will flood my heart-
Each time I hear your name.
We’ll miss your smile, your presence-
Your laughter in our ears,
The hole you left, when you went away,
Will fill, only with our tears.
I just can’t imagine life without you
You’ brought me so much joy
The best brother, uncle, cousin, friend
Devoted Son. My Baby boy.
My heart aches so much to see you
To hold you in my arms,
God took you up to heaven
But you will live inside my heart.
Watch over us and keep us close
And when you see our tears,
Dry them and remind us,
In some way, that you are near.
Your name will stay upon our lips
Every precious memory will remain
With tears and smiles and laughter
We’ll remember and honor you-
Until the day we see you once again.
I love you, my beautiful boy,

A Child Of Mine
By Edgar A. Guest
I will lend you, for a little time,
A child of mine, He said.
For you to love the while he lives,
And mourn for when he's dead.
It may be six or seven years,
Or twenty-two or three.
But will you, till I call him back,
Take care of him for Me?
He'll bring his charms to gladden you,
And should his stay be brief.
You'll have his lovely memories,
As solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay,
Since all from earth return.
But there are lessons taught down there,
I want this child to learn.
I've looked the wide world over,
In search for teachers true.
And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes,
I have selected you.
Now will you give him all your love,
Nor think the labour vain.
Nor hate me when I come
To take him home again?
I fancied that I heard them say,
'Dear Lord, Thy will be done!'
For all the joys Thy child shall bring,
The risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter him with tenderness,
We'll love him while we may,
And for the happiness we've known,
Forever grateful stay.
But should the angels call for him,
Much sooner than we've planned.
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes,
And try to understand.

I wrote this poem for my son Jeremy. He passed away on 7/15/22. He was 38. My life is forever changed.
A Million Tears
People say hold it together.
And that's what I'm trying to do.
I feel like my hearts in a shredder.
From the very moment I lost you.
They say you gotta be strong.
That time will ease the pain.
But they couldn't be more wrong.
For my loss is Heaven's gain.
I think of you, every minute of the day.
All the good times that we had.
Why couldn't you just stay?
And we wouldn't be so sad.
I had you close for 38 years.
My son who I love and adore.
I've already cried a million tears.
And I will cry a million more.
I will always love you.

In the Shadow of Your Suffering
In the quiet chambers of the night,
When all the world lies hushed in slumber deep,
I sit and ponder, with a heart contrite,
The path you tread, where shadows start to creep.
Your fragile form, so worn by cruel disease,
Each breath a whisper, each heartbeat a sigh,
I longed to hold your pain, to give you ease,
To take upon myself your every cry.
Yet powerless, I watched you fade away,
A candle flick'ring in the breath of fate,
Your days grew dimmer with each passing day,
Your spirit strained beneath a heavy weight.
Oh, how I wished to bear your cross, my child,
To shoulder all your anguish, all your fears,
To shield you from the storm, so fierce, so wild,
To catch your tears and turn them into cheers.
But in my grief, I found a sovereign hand,
A truth that whispered through my darkest night,
That God's great love, so vast, would understand,
And in His plan, your soul would find its light.
For Christ, the Man of Sorrows, bore it all,
He took our wounds, our burdens, and our shame,
He felt the sting of death, the heavy pall,
And through His pain, He healed our broken frame.
So, in the shadow of your suffering's end,
I see the dawn that breaks beyond the grave,
In God's embrace, your pain and sorrow mend,
And in His love, our weary hearts He'll save.
Though I could not, your anguish to relieve,
Or take the cup of sorrow from your lips,
I find my solace, in the truth I cleave,
That Jesus holds you in His fingertips.
And when my own tears fall like gentle rain,
I trust in Him, who walked this path of grief,
For in His sovereignty, I find again,
A hope that blooms eternal, like a leaf.
So rest, my child, in arms divine and strong,
Your suffering exchanged for endless peace,
In heaven's choir, you'll sing a joyous song,
And in God's love, our aching hearts find release.
On the Death of the Beloved
by John O’Donohue
Though we need to weep your loss,
You dwell in that safe place in our hearts,
Where no storm or night or pain can reach you.
Your love was like the dawn
Brightening over our lives
Awakening beneath the dark
A further adventure of colour.
The sound of your voice
Found for us
A new music
That brightened everything.
Whatever you enfolded in your gaze
Quickened in the joy of its being;
You placed smiles like flowers
On the altar of the heart.
Your mind always sparkled
With wonder at things.
Though your days here were brief,
Your spirit was live, awake, complete.
We look towards each other no longer
From the old distance of our names;
Now you dwell inside the rhythm of breath,
As close to us as we are to ourselves.
Though we cannot see you with outward eyes,
We know our soul's gaze is upon your face,
Smiling back at us from within everything
To which we bring our best refinement.
Let us not look for you only in memory,
Where we would grow lonely without you.
You would want us to find you in presence,
Beside us when beauty brightens,
When kindness glows
And music echoes eternal tones.
When orchids brighten the earth,
Darkest winter has turned to spring;
May this dark grief flower with hope
In every heart that loves you.
May you continue to inspire us:
To enter each day with a generous heart.
To serve the call of courage and love
Until we see your beautiful face again
In that land where there is no more separation,
Where all tears will be wiped from our mind,
And where we will never lose you again.
Then the Child
Then the child opened its eyes, and looked up into the angel's beautiful face,
Which beamed with happiness, and at the same moment they were in heaven,
Where joy and bliss reigned.
The child received wings like the other angel,
And they flew about together, hand in hand.
Hans Christian Anderson
The Day God Took You Home
The Day God Took You Home,
In tears we saw you sinking,
And watched you pass away.
Our hearts were almost broken,
We wanted you to stay.
But when we saw you sleeping,
So peaceful, free from pain,
How could we wish you back with us,
To suffer that again. It broke our hearts to,
Lose you, But you did not go alone,
For part of us went with you,
The day God took you home.
